- Social and recreational opportunities
PEP now also provides a new home decorating and gardening service at a small cost to cover volunteer labour and materials.
From 1 January 2006, the project opens weekdays 8.30 – 3.30 and at weekends
11 – 4.
The project’s staffing structure is as follows:
Manager
Deputy Manager & Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator
- Outdent
PEP has also introduced a new Bereavement Counselling service thanks to a three years’ funding package from UVAF and a new literacy and ICT service as a result of a funding package by the Big Lottery, Lloyds/TSB and the City of Edinburgh Council
In the meantime, all other PEP services continue namely, community transport, visiting services, ICT peer education programme, volunteering opportunities, weekend resource, lifelong learning programme and the OPEN Forum (see below)
Accessible Transport
PEP currently operates 9 minibuses which are used to
support local older people's groups and individuals on a weekly basis. These buses can also be hired by
local community projects e.g. youth groups, schools and church groups.
Visiting / Information Service
PEP operates a visiting service / information service
whose aim is to 'take the community' to older people who would otherwise be unable to
access community facilities and to reduce isolation among the housebound elderly.
Weekend Resource
PEP manages and supports a weekend resource for older people aged 50+ who may suffer isolation and stress.
Volunteer Recruitment
Volunteers extensively support all PEP's activities. PEP
offers training and on- going support to facilitate their contribution.
OPEN Forum
PEP supports and manages OPEN FORUM, North Edinburgh's forum for older people, to
engage in discussion and debate about services and issues that matter to them.
Lifelong Learning
PEP is committed to promoting lifelong learning opportunities for older people. Alongside a dedicated IT strategy, PEP plans and develops learning programmes aimed at meeting older people's needs. PEP also offers a dedicated literacy and numeracy programme for people who, for whatever reason, find reading and writing difficult.
Clubs
PEP both operates and develops 5 day clubs across North Edinburgh to provide opportunities for older people to participate in social and learning opportunities.
Gardening & Decorating
PEP provides a gardening, home decorating & odd job service for older and vulnerable people in North Edinburgh. Under the direction of two paid members of staff, PEP's volunteers will decorate a room or carry out basic gardening maintenance. The service normally operates a 4 weeks waiting list
